About IDEA Fund Partners
IDEA Fund Partners provides seed and early stage equity funding along with company building expertise to IT, materials technologies and medical device companies in North Carolina as well as the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. We are located in the Research Triangle Park area of Durham, NC.
One of the principle objectives of IDEA Fund Partners is to serve as a platform and catalyst for angel investors to re-enter the market. By creating a sizable enough fund to achieve diversity, utilizing the IDEA Fund Partners investment professionals for due diligence and investment decision making, but allowing for individual direct investment and Board participation in portfolio companies, it is believed that angels can achieve their objectives while the fund maintains a disciplined investment process.
IDEA Fund Partners is committed to remaining in the very early and seed stage segment in North Carolina and throughout the Southeast. We will leverage our existing relationships with angels and angel groups in areas such as Wilmington, the Piedmont Triad, Charlotte, Asheville, Charleston and Savannah to provide a viable investment infrastructure for companies in this stage segment.
The partnership at IDEA Fund Partners prides itself in employing the sound principles as the foundation for our investment strategy, including:
- Investing in promising technology startups as early as possible, including as first money invested.
- Looking for companies that we feel confident will have a sustainable competitive advantage for several years to come.
- Working with companies that have at least one outstanding management team member who will be with the company for the foreseeable future.
- Seeking deals where several of the components of inherent technology startup risk – management, product, IP, market, business model, and exit – are already mitigated.
- Investing in companies in which we can provide value that goes simply beyond giving them money.
- Co-investing with investment partners that we know, trust, and feel confident can provide value to the company.
- Investing in companies in which we can reasonably envision a desirable exit within 3-5 years.
- Seeking investment returns that are commensurate with the stage of the company and the level of perceived investment risk.
